Charles City Looks to Step Up Nuisance Abatement

The City of Charles City is looking to step up enforcement of nuisance codes, including those for rental properties.

Mayor Dean Andrews says a housing task force wants to meet with landlords to discuss enhancing the inspections of rental properties.

Andrews says the goal is a cooperative effort that can also give landlords an extra tool to address nuisance problems with tenants.

Andrews says the better enforcement of nuisance ordinances across the entire City can help with property values in general.

Andrews also adds that one owner who makes improvements to their property could also lead to neighbors also making upgrades to their property.

City officials hope to meet with landlords later this month.
