Charles City Man Wins $10,000 Iowa Lottery Prize

A Charles City man has scored a $10,000 Iowa Lottery prize.

Lottery officials say 47-year-old David Kruger won the 50th prize of $10,000 in the “Colossal Crossword” scratch game after he bought his lucky ticket at the Kwik Star on Gilbert Street in Charles City.

Kruger claimed his prize Monday at the lottery’s Mason City regional office and told the Iowa Lottery, “It was kind of a sigh of relief, because in June I’m getting a hip replacement surgery,”

He added, “I’ve won $500 a few times, but nothing ever like this.”

Colossal Crossword is a $30 scratch game that features 56 prizes of $10,000 and 19 top prizes of $300,000, with two of those prizes won recently in north Iowa.

Nicole Anderson of Mason City won the 15th $300,000 prize in December and Jessica Chambers of Mason City won the 16th top prize of $300,000 in January.
