The Oelwein Fire Department also responded to a house fire shortly after 7 am Wednesday (02.22) morning at 501 5th Avenue Southeast.

Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke coming from the residence with flames visible in the interior of the residence. Fire crews were able to suppress the fire with minimal structural damage and a preliminary investigation indicates the potential cause of the fire to be an electrical failure.

Mercy One Ambulance and crews from Alliant Energy also assisted at the scene.
