Charles City Sends Two Each to Boys and Girls State Bowling Tournament

Charles City’s string of qualifying as a team for the State Bowling Tournament has ended at eight years.

The Comets had advanced to state every year from 2015 through 2022, but they finished second in the qualifying tournament at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo on Feb. 14. Ballard was the team champ, winning by 31 pins over Charles City to take a spot in Monday’s (Feb. 20) Class 1A State Tournament, also at Cadillac Lanes.

However, the Comets qualified two bowlers for the boys state individual competition on Tuesday (Feb. 21) with Keaton Ross posting the top score in the Waterloo qualifier and teammate Xander Graeser finishing third overall.

In the 1A state qualifying tournament at Monticello Feb. 14, Dyson Koch and Hunter Jurgensen of Sumner-Fredericksburg advanced by placing third and eighth respectively. North Fayette Valley’s James Baumler was sixth to move on to bowl at state individually Tuesday (Feb. 21), in Waterloo.

On the girls side, Charles City’s Claire Girkin and Isabel Crawford advanced out of the qualifying tournament for the 1A individual state bowling tournament Tuesday, also at Cadillac Lanes in Waterloo.
