Charles City Second Graders On the Move

The Charles City School District will have second grade students attend classes in a new building next school year.

The district’s second graders currently go to Washington Elementary, but future classes will go to Lincoln Elementary starting with the 2023-24 school year this August.

Lincoln Elementary Principal Marcia DeVore says the move will even out the overall number of students in each building.

About 370 total students go to school at Washington this year compared to 200 at Lincoln.

Washington Elementary Principal Nannette Smith says the move will also provide for better student service at both buildings.

There will be an informational meeting for parents on the future relocating of second grade students at 5:30 p.m. this Tuesday (01.24) at Lincoln Elementary. The session was originally scheduled for last Thursday, but was postponed by the winter storm that dumped 10 inches of snow in the Charles City area.
