A northern Iowa man has won a $100,000 Iowa Lottery prize.
The Iowa Lottery says 41-year-old Travis Hovey of Riceville won the fourth top prize in the Iowa Lottery’s “Cash Blast” scratch game. He bought his winning ticket at Casey’s in Riceville, where he stopped to fill the gas tank of his wife’s vehicle, which he also almost let roll away.
Hovey told lottery officials that when he went inside to pay for his gas, he decided to buy a scratch ticket at the same time. When he got back to the car, he scratched it off and quickly uncovered a winning symbol. Before running back inside the store to have them check his ticket, he almost forgot to put the vehicle in park.
After confirming his win, Hovey said he rushed home to tell his wife, Tammy, the news, adding, “I couldn’t get home fast enough. I think she was in a little bit of a shock herself.”
The Hoveys plan to use the winnings to pay bills and retire debt.
Hovey claimed his prize Thursday at the Iowa Lottery’s Mason City regional office
Cash Blast is a $10 scratch game that features eight top prizes of $100,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.07.
