17-Year-Old Male Charged with Sexual Assault in Waverly Pleads Guilty

A 17-year-old male accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in north Iowa last spring has pleaded guilty.

Chad Chapline was accused of holding a female victim hostage and sexually assaulting her multiple times in a treehouse in southwest Waverly. Authorities say Chapline and a 15-year-old male accomplice also threatened the girl with a knife while holding her captive for almost 48 hours over May 14 and 15, 2022.

Chapline was originally charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a Class B felony, and false imprisonment, a serious misdemeanor. He initially pleaded not guilty last summer, but this week changed his plea to guilty for the sexual assault and is now scheduled for a sentencing hearing on February 27th in Bremer County District Court.

Chapline was convicted on the false imprisonment charge in juvenile court.

While awaiting sentencing, Chapline will now be held in the Bremer County Jail after he had been residing at the juvenile detention center at Eldora in Hardin County since his arrest.
