Like many businesses and industries dealing with increased costs beyond their control, the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office is also seeing the cost of law enforcement rising.
Sheriff Marty Hemann presented the department’s proposed budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year at this week’s Board of Supervisors meeting. Citing factors like increased fuel costs, Hemann says the County will have to charge more for dispatching and contract rates.
The County currently has 28E agreements with Fredericksburg, Nashua and Sumner to provide a set number of hours of service per month through the end of June. Time-and-a-half rates kick in for hours over the contracted amount.
Hemann also noted that unforeseen operating costs are also increasing, like those for the boarding and lodging of inmates in the County as well as out-of-county.
Randy Patrie is accused in the 2012 murder of Kenneth Gallmeyer of Nashua and is being held in the Fayette County Jail, which can house higher classification inmates such as murder suspects.
A hearing to reschedule a date for Patrie’s murder trial is set for this Tuesday (01.17) in Chickasaw County District Court in New Hampton.
