Oelwein Woman Arrested for Assaulting Victim with Homemade “Acid”

An Oelwein woman is facing an assault charge after she was accused of attacking her husband with what she claimed was homemade “acid.”
Oelwein Police say they were called to a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of 1st Avenue Northeast shortly before 4 am Wednesday (01.04) morning. Their investigation led to the arrest of 48-year-old Jeannie Murphy for domestic assault with intent to inflict serious injury, an aggravated misdemeanor.Â
According to the criminal complaint, Mitchell Murphy said he was sleeping in a chair when he woke up and Jeannie Murphy was standing nearby holding a bottle and wearing plastic gloves. She allegedly told him there was acid in the bottle and then walked towards him and splashed the “acid†on him. Mitchell Murphy then grabbed Jeannie Murphy’s arm in self defense before she asked him how it felt and poured the rest of the bottle of “acid” all over him.
While speaking with police, Jeannie Murphy said she had made the acid with household products and she believed it to truly be acid. She stated that she made it with salt, water, beef broth, molasses, and other ingredients. She added that her hands and arms were burning from it so she put on gloves to handle it.
