Prepare Your Vehicle for Winter Driving in North Iowa
Winter driving skills were tested this week in north Iowa with a mixture of snow and freezing rain.
Trooper Tom Williams with the Cedar Falls office of the Iowa State Patrol says before you venture out for any winter travel, make sure your vehicle is ready for the elements.
Williams also reminds motorists to be prepared for the possibility of getting stranded in the middle of a winter storm.
Williams adds that when you are on the road in inclement winter weather, slow down, increase your following distance with the vehicle in front of you, and allow more time to stop your vehicle.
Williams also advises calling ahead to let your destination know when you’re leaving and expected arrival time. You can also check road conditions in advance through www.511ia.org or on the 511ia app.
