Bond Set at $100,000 for Mason City Shooting Suspect

Bond has been set at $100,000 for the suspect arrested in connection with a shooting in Mason City earlier this week..

The Mason City Police Department says they received reports of an altercation involving gunfire in the 300 block of 3rd Street Northwest at about 8 p.m. Monday night. At the scene, they found a male who had been shot and he was transported to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center. His name and condition of the victim is not known at this time.

24-year-old Stephen Tidemanson was identified as the shooter and was apprehended Tuesday afternoon. The firearm believed to be used in the shooting was also recovered. He has been charged with attempted murder, a class B felony; and first-degree theft, a Class C felony.

According to court documents, Tidemanson took a 9mm handgun away from the person he was struggling with and fired into that person’s upper chest as they were lying on the ground beneath Tidemanson.

Tidemanson is in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on a $100,000  bond.

Court records also show Tidemanson was arrested in July for fourth-degree criminal mischief after he was accused of breaking a car window and he pleaded guilty in June to two separate counts of third-degree theft.
