Wisconsin Man Arrested on Firearm, Assault Charges in Chickasaw County

A man wanted on a warrant in Wisconsin was arrested on firearm and assault charges in north Iowa.

The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report of an assault by a felon in possession of a firearm about two miles north of Ionia at about 5:30 p.m. Monday. An investigation led to the arrest of 49-year-old Elijah Caldwell of Delavan, Wisconsin, a convicted felon with an active arrest warrant out of Dane County, Wisconsin, for a parole violation.

With the assistance of the Iowa State Patrol Tactical Team, an arrest warrant was served on Caldwell and he was taken into custody without incident on a charge of a felon in possession of a firearm, a Class D felony. Court records show Caldwell was also charged with domestic abuse assault while displaying a weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor, after he was accused of threatening a female victim in the home by holding a pistol to her head.

Caldwell was being held on $25,000 cash only bond. The investigation continues with additional charges pending.

Iowa State Patrol K9 Units, Iowa State Patrol Aircraft, New Hampton Fire Department, Chickasaw Ambulance Service, Wisconsin Department of Probation and Parole, and the  Chickasaw County Attorney’s Office also assisted in the investigation and apprehension of Caldwell.
