Northeast Iowa Man Accused of Killing Wife to Take Plea Deal

It appears that a northeast Iowa man accused of killing his wife will avoid trial and agree to a plea deal.

37-year-old Brandon Kasemeier is facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of his estranged wife, Jami Kasemeier. According to court documents, Waukon Police conducted a welfare check the morning of January 22nd and discovered Jami Kasemeier dead with “extensive injuries to her face.”

An empty handgun case and several fired .22 caliber cartridge casings were also allegedly found in the home. It’s believed she was killed on January 21st, the last day family members say they heard from Jami.

On January 23rd, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office arrested Brandon Kasemeier in Loveland, Colorado, and allegedly found a .22 revolver in his car, believed to be the murder weapon.

Kasemeier previously entered a not guilty plea and waived his right to a speedy trial, which was expected to be rescheduled from May 15th in Allamakee County District Court.

However, on Thursday (04.18), his legal counsel filed a motion for “further proceedings for the purpose of a change of plea and sentencing as the parties have reached an agreement.” The defense also requests the matter be set for plea and sentencing on May 6th.

Kasemeier is being held in the Allamakee County Jail with bail set at $1 million cash-only bond.
