U.S. Ethanol Production Reaches 13-Week High

U.S. ethanol production just hit a 13-week high, averaging 1.12 million barrels per day—a key win for Iowa, the nation’s top producer, as regional processors run at high capacity. According to Energy Information Administration data, output rose over 2 percent from last week, outpacing five-year averages by more than 4 percent. Refineries also bumped up ethanol blending to a four-week high. However, the surge in supply comes alongside mixed demand signals. Overall U.S. gasoline demand tumbled nearly 7 percent to its lowest level since late December, and export volume dropped by over 12 percent. While high output keeps Iowa’s processing facilities humming during peak harvest, national inventories remain nearly 10 percent above last year’s levels—a dynamic local producers are watching closely as supply builds faster than domestic and international demand.
