Floyd County Burn Ban Lifted

After almost two weeks, a burn ban has been lifted in Floyd County.

Floyd County Emergency Management Director Jason Webster submitted the County’s request Thursday (03.14) morning to lift the burn ban on behalf of the fire departments having all or part of their fire districts within the County. The burn ban, which went into effect at noon on Friday, March 1st, was lifted at noon Thursday.

With the help of much-needed rainfall Thursday, Floyd County was one of six Iowa counties to remove its burn ban, taking the total burn bans in effect down to 16 as of 1 pm Thursday.

Last fall, Floyd County was under a burn ban from September 7th to October 16th due to the extreme drought. The latest U.S. Drought Monitor for Iowa continues to show all or the vast majority of Floyd, Chickasaw, Butler, Bremer, Mitchell, Howard, Fayette, Franklin, Winneshiek, Black Hawk, Cerro Gordo, Grundy and Buchanan counties in extreme drought.
