Floyd County Precinct Picked for Election Audit Also Needs Administrative Recount

For the first time ever, Secretary of State Paul Pate is requiring all counties to audit the ballots of at least two races following the November 8th general election.

It just happens that the one precinct picked in Floyd County for the audit also requires an administrative recount of the ballots. County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections, Gloria Carr, explained to the Board of Supervisors Monday that the precinct for Ulster, St. Charles and Riverton townships at the Floyd County Fairgrounds had a technical hiccup election day.

Carr also noted that typically the voting machine will provide a message of the jam, but somehow didn’t get caught by the process last Tuesday. The administrative recount was to be completed Monday afternoon before the Supervisors officially canvass the county’s election results Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.

The precinct was included in the voting for the District 1 seat on the  Board of Supervisors, but the one ballot isn’t likely to affect the outcome. Mark Kuhn won the race with 875 total votes to 708 for Julius Bryant and 459 for incumbent Doug Kamm.

In Chickasaw County, elections officer Laura Wickham says the Chickasaw North precinct was audited and came back with no discrepancies.
