Voter Turnout Exceeds 50% in Floyd, Chickasaw, Mitchell Counties

Voter turnout exceeded 50% for Tuesday’s mid-term elections in Chickasaw and Floyd counties.

Of Floyd County’s 11,093 registered voters, 5,793 ballots were cast; a turnout of just over 52%. County Auditor Gloria Carr that was lower than three previous midterms with almost 62% of registered voters casting ballots in 2018 compared to 58% in 2014 and 53% in 2010.

The lower turnout in 2022 comes despites races for all three Board of Supervisor seats and a crucial vote on an EMS essential services tax levy that would have generated money for ambulance and first responders who provide emergency medical services in the County. 

Voter turnout in Chickasaw County was almost 61% Tuesday with 5026 ballots cast among the County’s 8,286 registered voters.

In Mitchell County, 4,278 ballots were cast among the 7,401 registered voters for a turnout of almost 58%.
