New Hampton School District Adopts Teacher Early Departure Incentive Program

Not that they want teachers to leave their position with the district, but New Hampton Schools would like to know about any pending departure sooner rather than later.

Superintendent Jay Jurrens proposed an “early departure notification incentive” program at Monday’s New Hampton School Board meeting.

Jurrens noted that the early departure program comes from necessity.

Jurrens, the shared Superintendent with Turkey Valley Schools, said that district started an “early departure notification incentive” program last year with two teachers taking advantage of being paid $50 for each sick day unused by June.

The New Hampton School Board approved paying the departing certified teachers $100 for each sick day unused by June, if they submit their notice by December 31st.

The move is also expected to encourage departing teachers NOT to use up all their sick time before their employment ends, which could leave the school district in a staffing crunch.
