City of New Hampton Hosts LOSST Town Hall Meeting Thursday Night

On the November 8th general election ballot, the City of New Hampton will ask its citizens to approve redirecting revenue generated by its one-cent Local Option Sales and Service Tax (LOSST) to help pay for the City’s portion of a public ambulance service in Chickasaw County.

In an effort to educate voters, the City’s “Citizens for Ambulance Service” committee will host its second town hall meeting Thursday night from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

That’s Mayor Bobby Schwickerath, who reminds citizens they’re not being asked to approve a new tax and devoting revenue from LOSST to the City’s support of the County-run ambulance is vital.

Schwickerath says the City currently generates about $500,000 a year with the one-cent LOSST.

New Hampton’s contribution to operating funds for the ambulance service is estimated to be about $350,000 a year for five years.
