Public Hearing for North Main Street Closure at Monday’s Charles City City Council

The second reading of an ordinance that would eliminate regular traffic in front of a Charles City chicken processing plant is on the agenda for Monday’s City Council meeting.

There will also be a public hearing at which citizens can weigh in on the closing of a one-block section of North Main Street which would allow transport trucks easier access in and out of Pure Prairie Farms.

That’s City Administrator Steve Diers, who says the ordinance would have to pass tonight and one more time in July to become official. He adds that the City is preparing to help guide motorists through the street change, which could be Monday, August 1st.

A post on the Pure Prairie Farms Facebook indicates the plant could re-open by mid-July. The facility last processed chickens in August of 2019 when it was still Simple Essentials.

Tonight’s Charles City Council meeting starts at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
