A standoff after a high-speed chase with law enforcement in Mason City Friday afternoon ended with two men in custody.
The Mason City Police Department says events began when an Iowa State Patrol trooper attempted to stop a vehicle west of downtown Mason City shortly before 12:30 p.m. Friday. The driver refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued until the vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree in the 300 block of 1st Street Northwest. Two occupants from the vehicle then fled on foot.
Authorities secured a perimeter around the area and one subject was taken into custody shortly after fleeing the crash. The other fled into a nearby residence. Officials believed that the occupants may be armed. Troopers worked to call out the second suspect for several hours and at about 4 p.m. officers forced entry to the structure, used pepper spray to identify the location of the suspect, who surrendered and was taken into custody by troopers. After receiving medical treatment at the scene, he was cleared for transport to the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
Authorities arrested the driver, 35-year-old Cody Dakin, for possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, a Class B felony; eluding a pursuing law enforcement officer and for being a felon in possession of a firearm, both Class D felonies; plus interference with official acts, a serious misdemeanor.
Also taken into custody is 27-year-old Michael Dalluge on charges of possession with Class C felony intent to deliver meth, plus being a felon in possession of a firearm, interference with official acts.
The Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, North Central Iowa Narcotics Task Force Special Operations Group, and the Mason City Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
