One Person Killed in Fiery Two-Semi Crash in North Iowa

One driver was killed and the other seriously injured in a fiery, semi versus semi crash Friday morning in north Iowa.

The Iowa State Patrol says the wreck occurred just before 9 a.m. about 10 miles southwest of Algona. A Freightliner driven by 49-year-old Chad Bjork of Albert City, Iowa, was southbound on 70th Avenue when the truck collided with the Peterbilt driven east on 160th Street by 48-year-old Allan Schuler of Thompson. Both vehicles went into the ditch, caught fire and burned completely.

Schuler died at the scene and Bjork was airlifted by helicopter to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City with serious injuries.

The state patrol says Bjork failed to yield the right of way at the intersection.

The Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Kossuth County EMS, Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Iowa DNR, and the Algona police and fire departments.
