Trial Delayed for Nashua Man Charged with Child Sex Abuse

The trial for a Nashua man accused of sexually abusing two minors has been delayed.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39-year-old Ethan Vorhes after he was accused of sexually abusing two children, both of whom were under the age of 15 at the time, on multiple occasions from 2018 to 2022. Vorhes is also accused of showing pornography to one of his victims.

Charges against Vorhes include two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, Class B felonies; two counts each of third-degree sexual abuse and lascivious acts with a child, Class C felonies; two counts of indecent contact with a child, aggravated misdemeanors; plus indecent exposure and exhibiting obscene material to a minor, serious misdemeanors. Vorhes has pleaded not guilty.

Last week, his attorney filed for a continuance, asking that the December 20th trial date be pushed back, preferably to March, for possible plea deal negotiations and needing more time to review discovery. A judge has granted the continuance and reset the trial date for February 21st in Floyd County District Court.

In other matters related to the case against Vorhes, attorney Elizabeth Batey, appointed as guardian for the prosecution’s child witnesses, is withdrawing as counsel. Batey has been appointed a District Associate Judge and will no longer be practicing law.
