Vehicles Need to Be Off New Hampton Streets During Measurable Snowfall

When forecasts call for “measurable” snow in New Hampton, citizens will need to get their vehicles off the streets to avoid getting a ticket.

Police Chief Zach Nosbisch says the City’s snow ordinance goes into effect when snow starts to pile up, but recommends action in advance.

Nosbisch says there are several parking options for those challenged to get their vehicle off the street where they live.

In Charles City, the City’s website Snow Removal page says parking is prohibited on the streets designated as emergency snow routes.

The City’s website also says crews will begin plowing streets normally when snow accumulations reach two inches or when blowing and drifting of snow seriously affects traffic. Snow placed in driveways by city plows is the property owner’s responsibility for removal.

In a Facebook post, the Charles City Police Department asks citizens to “Try to have your vehicles off the street during snow removal. If you fail to do so, you might get a red sticker on your vehicle. Failure to remove it by the next day, and a ticket can be issued.”CCPD also advises shoveling your sidewalks within 24 hours of the snow event.
