Renovate or Replace Municipal Swimming Pool in Charles City Still Undecided

The future of the Lions Field swimming pool in Charles City remains a bit “murky,” but City officials have a clearer picture of what it will cost to renovate the current facility.

JEO Consulting, the firm conducting a study of the pool, recently reported to the Park-Rec Board that it will take about $1.3 million for renovations.

Park-Rec Director Tyler Mitchell says much of that money would be spent to fix the pool’s basic needs, which won’t be obvious to the average swimmer.

Mitchell says the City continues to weigh the options for renovations versus replacement of the pool that opened 31 years ago in 1991.

Mitchell says that, ultimately, money will determine which route to take with the pool, but the JEO report indicates that not all repairs and renovations would have to be done at the same time and could be phased in over time.
