Mitchell County Auditor Looks to Clear Up Ballot Confusion

While Public Measure A on next week’s Mitchell County election ballots appears to be worded easily understandable, there is also some public confusion that could impact the vote’s outcome.

Public Measure A asks, “Shall the following public measure be adopted:  Should the Mitchell County Board of Supervisors be decreased from five supervisors to three supervisors?”

County Auditor Rachel Foster is encouraging Mitchell County voters to educate themselves and read the language of the resolution closely.

If the measure passes, Foster says the current makeup of the Board of Supervisors would be a short-lived “experiment.”

Foster says the three supervisors format had been in place for a long time prior to the switch to five supervisors. If voters approve the switch back, Foster said the three supervisor positions would be up for election in November of 2024 with terms starting on January 1, 2025.
