Final “Town of Colors” Mural for 2022 in Charles City Almost Done

The final of four murals to be painted in 2022 as part of Charles City’s “Town of Colors” campaign could be completed by the end of the week.

The initial murals were painted last year on the southside of First Citizens Bank and the north side of Snap Fitness. This summer, murals were finished around RAGBRAI at the Charles City Whitewater course by Matt Litwin of Minneapolis and on the southside of the Wisconsin Street apartments by Britt Flood of North Carolina.

The final two murals were awarded to local artists with Janiece Bergland, also a Charles City School Board member, finishing her mural on the east side of Saxony in August. The final piece of artwork, with a theme of “Rosie the Riveter,” is being painted by Robin Macomber on the west side of the Rustic Corner building on North Main Street.

Macomber says painting in her hometown can also be nerve racking because she isn’t leaving town after her work is complete. However, she says painting with an audience with the kids next door at TLC helps motivate her.

Macomber says she started her mural the week of September 26th and could be finished yet this week if the weather cooperates.
