Splash Pad Could Supplement Charles City Swimming Pool

In addition to surprising City Administrator Steve Diers with his selection as City Manager of the Year at last week’s Iowa League of Cities annual conference in Waterloo, Charles City Mayor Dean Andrews says it was an opportunity to discuss similar challenges facing cities across the state.

One issue for Charles City is the future of the Lions Field swimming pool.

Andrews says he attended a League of Cities session on the advantages of splash pads.

Andrews says he’s not sure if the splash pad fits in the pool’s future plans, but it should be part of the discussion.

The City is currently waiting for a report from JEO Consulting on their study of what it might take to repair the current pool. The results could determine if the City proceeds with a second study on what building a new pool might cost and where it would be located.
