Contract Awarded for Charles City Million Gallon Underground Water Tank

Tripling the capacity of drinking water in Charles City took a $4.3 million step forward Wednesday night.

During their regular meeting, the City Council approved the lowest of seven bids received for the construction of a one million gallon, clear well underground storage tank, which will supplement the City’s current drinking water capacity of 500,000 gallons.

SEH’s Rustin Lingbeek is the consultant for the project, which was estimated at about $4. 4 million. He says the City received a  lower-than-expected winning bid from Gridor Construction of Buffalo, Minnesota, because the company was eager for their business.

Among the other bids received included $5.2 million from Woodruff Construction in Waterloo and $5.4 million from Henkel Construction of Mason City.

No timetable was given as to when construction of the clear well tank will begin.
