Pilot Escapes Injury After Helicopter Crashes in Northeast Iowa Field

A Florida man escaped serious injury after his crop duster helicopter crash landed in a northeast Iowa corn field.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office says they received a report just after 11 a.m. Friday that a chopper had gone down. Deputies determined that the 2006 Robinson R44 helicopter, operated by Nicholas Jerell of Doral, Florida, had clipped a power line that had spanned across a corn field near M Avenue and 130th Street, just southwest of Fayette. Jerell was able to control the aircraft to a quick descent and landed it safely in the field.

No injuries were reported but the helicopter sustained disabling damage.  Arrangements were made to have it hoisted up and transported from the scene.
