North Iowa Husband, Wife Killed in Car vs. Train Collision

Authorities have identified a north Iowa husband and wife who were killed after their van was struck by a train Wednesday night in Butler County.

The Iowa State Patrol says the collision occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. A Chrysler Town and Country, driven by 70-year-old Joel Sult of Allison, was southbound on County Road T-47 at the intersection with the railroad crossing near Pioneer Place, about six miles southeast of Greene. The van hit a train car and Sult, along with his wife, 68-year-old Rosemary Sult, died in the wreck.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Greene Ambulance and Fire and Rescue, Clarksville Ambulance, Butler County Medical Examiner, and Iowa Northern Railroad assisted at the scene.
