It’s RAGBRAI Week in Iowa, with the huge influx of bike riders targeting north and northeast Iowa Wednesday through Saturday.
Pete Hjelmstad with the Iowa DOT Mason City District office cautions motorists to be ready for interruptions of road access caused by herds of bicyclists. He says RAGBRAI bike traffic will be regulated largely to paved county roads while avoiding state highways, for the most part.
Hjelmstad also reminds motorists that the DOT is available to help you steer clear of RAGBRAI along the entire route.
Hjelmstad notes that the DOT and RAGBRAI began conversations on this year’s route late last year.
