Rockford will be ready for RAGBRAI riders early and often on Thursday.
Rockford is the only pass-through town on the route from Mason City to Charles City and with dry weather in the forecast, Floyd County Conservation Naturalist Heidi Reams says she expects to encounter many riders on her way into work at the Fossil and Prairie Center just west of Rockford.
Diane Eaton with the Rockford RAGBRAI committee hopes residents will also come out early to show their community spirit and support.
With the leg from Mason City to Charles City being the shortest on this year’s route, Diane’s husband, Gil, says it may have one or two impacts on riders’ arrival. Many will get up early because of the short ride, while others might sleep in due to the 104-mile bike ride on Wednesday into Mason City. He says either way, most riders will depart Rockford by 2 p.m. Thursday.
