Plan Ahead for the Onset of Severe Weather

Escaping Mother Nature’s severe weather wrath starts with being prepared.

Floyd County Emergency Management Director Jason Webster recommends getting the whole family on the same page of your severe weather plan.

As far as when its time to put your plan into practice, Webster notes the difference between watches and warnings.

Webster also advises signing up for ALERT IOWA as a great way to stay weather aware.

A link to sign up with ALERT IOWA can be found below. Webster says there are also tutorial videos available on YouTube to show you how to sign up.

ALERT IOWA has replaced Code Red as the official statewide emergency alert system, but according to the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Managements, Mitchell County is one of eight counties in the state not enrolled in the program.
