A former state legislator is the new part-time Floyd County Attorney.
The Floyd County Board of Supervisors met in special session Wednesday to make the appointment of Charles City attorney Todd Prichard official. The move comes after interviewing Prichard on Monday, along with Assistant Floyd County Attorney Randy Tilton and Assistant Cerro Gordo County Attorney Brendon Moe.
Prichard emerged as the favorite after he proposed County Attorney be a part-time position. To do that, Supervisors Wednesday first had to approve a resolution switching the post from full-time to part-time. They also set his annual salary at $84,000 a year through June 30, 2024, the end of the 2023-24 fiscal year. His salary will be prorated through this June 30th.
Wednesday, Prichard told Supervisors he would keep Tilton on as his full-time assistant County Attorney. Combined with Prichard part-time hire and his declining health insurance because he’s covered by the Army, Supervisor Chair Mark Kuhn says the moves mean savings and continuity.
Prichard said his salary savings also present flexibility for future staffing options.
Prichard was then sworn in, replacing former County Attorney Rachel Ginbey, who resigned to become the County Attorney in Hancock County. Prichard will serve out the remainder of Ginbey’s term, which ends December 31, 2026. He would then have to run for election to keep the job.
However, any eligible elector in the County could still file a petition within 14 days of Prichard’s appointment. to force a special election for the position.
