North Iowa Dominates in Girls Class 2A Cross Country Race

North Iowa dominated at the Girls Class 2A state cross country meet with four area runners finishing in the top eight individually.

Katelyn Johnston of Osage was the state runner-up with Hillary Trainor of Sumner-Fredericksburg 5th, Kinze Shea of Cresco-Crestwood 7th and Campbelle Kolbet of New Hampton in 8th place.

As a team in Class 2A, New Hampton finished 8th while making their first state meet appearance since 1997. Denver was 7th.

In the girls 1A race, Nashua-Plainfield’s Cadence Huck finished 10th with South Winneshiek’s Billie Wagner 13th, which helped South Winn finish as the state team runner-up.

In the boys 1A race, Newman Catholic’s Ryan Kelly finished 11th and North Butler-Green’s Owen Almelien was 20th.  In the 2A boys race, New Hampton’s Peyton Anderson was 50th. In the 3A boys race, Charles City’s Nick Williams and Xander Graeser finished 71st and 72nd respectively.

In team scoring, Oelwein finished 5th in Class 2A with Denver 8th.
