Trial of 17-Year-Old Charged with Sex Abuse, False Imprisonment in Waverly Delayed

The trial for a 17-year-old male accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl in north Iowa this past spring is being delayed again.

Chad Chapline is accused of holding a female victim hostage and sexually assaulting her multiple times in a treehouse in southwest Waverly. Authorities say Chapline and a 15-year-old male accomplice also threatened the girl with a knife while holding her captive for almost 48 hours over May 14th and 15th.

Chapline is charged with two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, Class B felonies; and one count of false imprisonment, a serious misdemeanor. Chapline has pleaded not guilty and his “reverse waiver” motion to return legal proceedings to juvenile court has been denied for the two felonies.

Chapline was originally slated for trial July 12th, but was then continued to August 23rd, and then pushed back to October 18th. On Friday, September 30th another continuance motion was granted and his trial is now set for December 13th.

Chapline is currently being held in the Hardin County Jail.
