Charles City Readies to Borrow to Fund Million Gallon Underground Water Tank

Last month, the City Council approved a construction bid of $4.3 million to triple the capacity of drinking water in Charles City. Now the City is getting ready to finance the project.

Gridor Construction of Buffalo, Minnesota, has been awarded the contract to construct the one million gallon clearwell underground storage tank, which will supplement the City’s current drinking water capacity of 500,000 gallons.

During Monday (10.03) night’s regular meeting, City Administrator Steve Diers said the Council must first approve giving the City permission to borrow the money for the project.

Diers also noted that the “notice to proceed” with the project was also officially signed this week, which means Gridor could start construction anytime. The clearwell tank is anticipated for completion by December of 2023.
