New Hampton to Add Middle School-Level Trapshooting Team

The New Hampton School Board has approved adding a trapshooting program at the Middle School level.

Board President and High School trapshooting coach Jay Matthews said it’s a move they’ve discussed in recent years.

Matthews, who abstained from the final Board vote, noted that they had 36 members for the high school trapshooting team this past season, which also includes some students from Turkey Valley High School.

Jay Jurrens, shared Superintendent for both school districts, noted that trapshooting is a self-sustaining program.

Still, Matthews says they’ll need more coaches, transportation also means additional cost, and they’ll need more ammunition when the middle school trapshooting program comes on board.
