Toddler Among Two People Killed in Three-Vehicle Wreck in North Iowa

A toddler was among two north Iowans killed in a multi-vehicle crash Friday night.

The Iowa State Patrol says the wreck occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 65, just north of Kensett in Worth County.  A Chrysler Pacifica driven by 24-year-old Maggie Harvey of Northwood was northbound when the vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a Toyota Avalon driven by 45-year-old John Hinderscheid of Albert Lea, Minnesota. Hindersheid’s vehicle went into the ditch.

After the initial impact, Harvey’s car rolled and came to rest on its top in the middle of the roadway and then was struck by an International semi driven by 62-year-old Dennis Stoneking of Northwood.

A passenger in Harvey’s vehicle, three-year-old Thielen Fausnaugh of Northwood, and Hindersheid were both pronounced dead at the scene. Harvey was taken by Mason City Ambulance to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City. Stoneking was not injured.
