Oelwein Police Investigate Fatal Dog Shooting

Northeast Iowa authorities are investigating the fatal shooting of a dog Friday afternoon.
The Oelwein Police Department says they were called to 28 3rd Street Northwest for a report of someone discharging a firearm and killing a canine at about 3:30 p.m. Friday. Officers arrived, made the scene safe, and confirmed that a firearm had been discharged.
Their investigation determined that the legal occupant of the property fired one round from a shotgun during the incident, fatally striking a canine that did not belong on the property. Authorities were also told that dog was reportedly actively being aggressive towards another person on the property.
This incident remains under investigation.
