Floyd County Medical Center Acquires SMS Physical Therapy

Floyd County Medical Center (FCMC) has acquired SMS Physical Therapy in Charles City.
The milestone follows more than 50 years of SMS Physical Therapy sharing space and serving patients within FCMC, reflecting a long-standing partnership rooted in collaboration, trust, and community-focused care. The acquisition, effective January 1st, allows FCMC to formally bring all therapy services—physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), and speech therapy—together under one unified rehabilitation umbrella.
FCMC CEO Dawnett Willis says, “Bringing SMS fully into the FCMC family formalizes a partnership that has long served our patients well. This structure allows us to further align physical, occupational, and speech therapy services and naturally complements the continued growth of our orthopedic and sports medicine services—ensuring patients experience consistent, high-quality care from diagnosis through recovery.”
Troy Loeckle, one of the former co-owners of SMS Physical Therapy, will oversee the newly integrated department as director. He adds, “After more than 50 years of working side by side within Floyd County Medical Center, this transition reflects the strength of our partnership and shared commitment to patient-centered care. This step honors the way we have collaborated for decades while positioning therapy services for the future.”
FCMC says patients will continue to receive care from the same trusted therapists they know, with the integrated model also supporting streamlined access for patients, and a seamless therapy experience across the full continuum of care.
