Floyd County Supervisors Get Summit Carbon Pipeline Update

Summit Carbon Solutions, which wants to build a carbon capture pipeline through Floyd County,  provided an update on the project to the Floyd County Board of Supervisors Monday.

That’s Kaylee Langrell representing Summit, who added the company is still looking to begin construction in August or September of 2023. That would first require approval of a building permit by the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB), which is expected to take action on the application until early next year.

If approved, Summit’s “Midwest Carbon Express” carbon pipeline would start with the Homeland Energy Solutions ethanol plant near Lawler and go west through Chickasaw, Floyd and Cerro Gordo counties among others.

Navigator CO2 Ventures is also targeting Floyd County with its Heartland Greenway carbon pipeline starting one branch with the Valero Renewables ethanol plant just west of Charles City.

Langrell says the projects are separate, but they do talk to one another.

Langrell also noted that Summit has been in contact with Floyd County Engineer Jacob Page about submitting their application for road crossing permits once construction begins.
