Northeast Iowa Man Charged with Murder of 83-Year-Old Pleads Not Guilty

A northeast Iowa man charged with murder in the death of an 83-year-old man this past spring has pleaded not guilty.

On August 17th, the Lansing/New Albin Police Department arrested 67-year-old Andrew Karvel of Lansing for first-degree murder, a Class A felony, in the death of Daniel Lundy, also of Lansing. On May 9th, authorities responded to a medical call for a report of an elderly man who was unconscious and not breathing and found Lundy deceased. 

According to the criminal complaint, Karvel is accused of strangling the victim to death sometime in the early morning hours of May 9th in their residence in the 600 block of 2nd Street in Lansing.

Karvel entered a not guilty plea on Friday, while also requesting a speedy trial. Monday, his trial date was set for November 2nd in Allamakee County District Court. 

Karvel is being held in the Allamakee County Jail in Waukon without bond.
