New Hampton Garbage Fee Increase Will Not Be Passed on to Residents

The cost of disposing garbage for the City of New Hampton is going up, but it won’t impact the bill that homeowners and businesses pay.

LJP Waste Solutions (Jendro) provides sanitation services to the City and their contract provides them the opportunity to request a rate increase based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). With the CPI going up, especially due to higher gas prices, LJP asked the City Council last week for a garbage rate fee increase.

Mayor Bobby Schwickerath says the increase was approved, but won’t be passed on to customers.

Schwickerath says the City also continues to look at increasing pay for City staff, especially for New Hampton Police.

Schwickerath says upping NHPD pay is their top priority at this time, since the City has been looking to fill in an officer position that’s been open since early June.
