Ag Secretary Mike Naig Tours Charles City Chicken Processing Plant
Iowa’s top ag official toured Pure Prairie Farms in Charles City Thursday.
As part of his annual 99 county tour, Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig met with company leadership and employees and took a brief tour of the chicken processing facility.
Naig commended PPF operators for making a huge monetary investment in restarting the chicken processing plant which has been closed since August 2019.
When former owners, Simply Essentials, closed the doors, it put over 400 people out of work. PPF is expected to begin the facility’s reboot with about 50 employees and employ upwards of 250 people when running at full capacity. CEO Brian Roelofs says they’re still targeting to reopen this year.
Roelofs says the company is extremely grateful for the efforts of City officials and the supportive reception they’ve received from the community throughout the entire re-start process since PPF purchased the facility last December.
