NIACC Recognizes Nora Springs Business as August 2022 Entrepreneur of the Month

A Floyd County business owner is being recognized for her innovation and success.

Amanda Slinger of Ruff Cuts Pet Grooming in Nora Springs has been selected as the August 2022 Entrepreneur of the Month by the NIACC John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center and North Iowa Area Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

Slinger opened Ruff Cuts in 2018 as a full-service grooming business after working for several years as a funeral director, and then at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center before going into pet care. After several years of grooming dogs professionally, Slinger decided to strike out on her own.

Slinger’s words of advice for new entrepreneurs: “If you’re only capable of starting small, just stick with it. You can start small, as long as you start. There was a moment when I asked myself, ‘What did I do?’ But it came together after a lot of hard work and it was a positive experience in the end.”

Now Ruff Cuts Pet Grooming is a bustling, thriving enterprise with a waiting list of customers.
