North Iowa Counties See Jobless Rate Go Up in June

While the state unemployment rate as a whole was down from May to June, north Iowa counties saw their jobless rates go up during the same period.

According to data from Iowa Workforce Development, Floyd County saw the biggest increase in the unemployment rate, going from 2.2% in May to 2.8% in June. Cerro Gordo County also saw a June jobless rate of 2.8% with Fayette County having the highest rate of unemployment at 3%. Both of those counties were up by a half percent over May, as was Howard County at 2.6% for June.

Other counties saw their jobless rates go up by .4% or less from May to June with Winneshiek County at 2.6%; Butler at 2.5%, Chickasaw and Worth counties at 2.4%; Franklin at 2.3%; Bremer at 2.1%; and Mitchell County’s unemployment rate at 1.9% for June.

The State’s unemployment rate for June was 2.6%, down from from May’s jobless rate of 2.7%.
