With 15,000 to 20,000 RAGBRAI bicyclists descending on north Iowa over the coming days, keeping the event safe takes effort by riders and residents along the route.
Bob Krueger of Charles City works with Ride Right, a joint effort by the Iowa Bike Coalition and RAGBRAI to promote safety etiquette for bikers and non-bikers.
Krueger says one of the safest measures to take when riders come by is keep your distance.
Krueger also advises keeping close tabs on children and pets from approaching riders and reminds motorists to be alert, including after you park.
Krueger also notes that some companies along the RAGBRAI route will take steps to avoid riders all together.
Krueger has ridden RAGBRAI over 20 times.
