Nashua Woman Charged in Summer 2021 Serious Injury Wreck

Almost one year after her car ran into a semi about eight miles south of Charles City, a Nashua woman has been charged with causing the crash that injured her and one of her passengers.

Court records show 46-year-old Carey Agnitsch was driving her Buick LeSabre on her postal carrier route when she ran into a semi driven by Clifford Holthaus at the intersection of Timber Avenue and 270th Street on July 26th, 2021.  Investigators say the truck had the right of way with nothing blocking his view, while there were no signs of braking or attempt by Agnitsch to slow down before the collision.

Court documents state Agnitsch and a female passenger had to be extracted from the Buick by mechanical means by the Charles City and Nashua fire departments and both were eventually transported to Mayo Clinic in Rochester for treatment of serious injuries.  The semi driver was not hurt.

According to investigators, a State Patrol officer said Agnitsch had a history of illegal drug use and she tested positive for drugs while being treated at the hospital.

A criminal complaint was filed July 1st, a warrant for her arrest was issued July 5th, and Agnitsch was arrested and charged Friday with serious injury by vehicle, a Class D felony. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 25th in Floyd County District Court.
